Getting a grip on grants.
Like scholarships, grants do not have to be repaid. While scholarships are applied to tuition or room and board, grants can often be used for a variety of educational expenses.
Grants are generally need-based, and some apply to particular fields of study. Others are designed for members of underrepresented groups or minorities. Grants are usually, but not always, provided through the government or a nonprofit organization. Grants that are based on financial need require that a student complete a FAFSA.
