Gmail - Understanding Archiving and Deleting (video 1:17)
Unlike GroupWise, Albion's former email system, archived gmail messages are still stored in your Gmail account so they are always available online.
Archived messages in Gmail are moved to the All Mail area in your Gmail account. All Mail contains all of the messages you have sent or received, but not deleted.
Delete messages are moved to the Trash area and are automatically removed after 30 days. Items moved to trash can be recovered within the 30 day period by removing the Trash label on the item (see the Labels tutorial for more information on organizing with labels.
