Shaw, Edwards score in double figures

It was a tale of two halves for Albion College in a 55-42 loss to Washington & Jefferson College in non-league women’s basketball action Saturday. Melissa Shaw led the Britons with 13 points, six rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Keigan Edwards added 12 points and five rebounds.

Albion College's bid for an improbable comeback fell short Saturday as it was defeated by DePauw University, 78-73, in the championship game of the College Basketball Classic hosted by the Albion Rotary Club. The Britons trailed by as many as 20 five minutes into the second half, but cut the deficit to three on Chris Hutton's 3-point goal with five seconds remaining. Chris Farr (pictured at left), who scored 13 points, joined Hutton on the all-tournament team. Dave Stasiak scored a season-high 13, and Kolin Kazen added 10.

Albion College knocked down 11-of-18 shots from 3-point range to pull away for a 71-60 victory over Edgewood College of Madison, Wis., in opening round action of the College Basketball Classic hosted by the Albion Rotary Club. Chris Hutton (pictured at left) scored a career-high 19, sinking 5-of-7 shots from long range. Adam Hiday and Kolin Kazen scored in double figures for the first time in their collegiate careers with 12 and 10, respectively. Andre Bridges also contributed 10 points. Albion will face DePauw University of Greencastle, Ind., for the tournament title Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock inside Kresge Gymnasium.
