
Farr, Hutton gain all-tournament awards
The Britons trailed 44-26 at halftime as they connected on 31 percent of their shots from the field in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Kolin Kazen (Holland/Saugatuck) and Wayne Bond (Portage/Portage Central) kept Albion within striking distance. Kazen scored 10 points, knocking down 3-of-5 shots from the field and 4-of-6 attempts at the line. Bond added six points, scoring on his only shot from the field and on all four opportunities from the free throw line.
Albion reeled off a 9-0 run at the start of the second half as David Stasiak (Ann Arbor/Saline) knocked down a 3-point goal and Jake Robison (Coldwater/Coldwater) added three baskets. DePauw recovered and built a 20-point lead, 55-35, with 15 minutes left in the contest.
Albion made six 3-point goals on the afternoon, and three of those came in the final minute of the game. Andre Bridges (Canton/Canton), Stasiak, and Chris Hutton (Metamora/Lapeer West) each hit from the outside to trim the deficit to 76-73 with five seconds left.
Tournament most valuable player Steve Lemasters sealed the victory for DePauw by connecting on a pair of free throws. He led all players with 22 points, scoring on 5-of-10 shots from 3-point range and on 7-of-8 attempts from the free throw line.
Chris Farr (Walled Lake/Walled Lake Central) scored 13 points for his first double-figure scoring output in a game since finishing with 17 in the first game of the 2008-2009 season. He was 3-of-6 from the field and 7-of-10 at the line. Hutton, who scored a career-high 19 points in Albion’s Friday win over Edgewood (Wis.) College, joined Farr on the all-tournament team.
Stasiak also finished with 13 points against DePauw.
Albion, 2-1 on the young season, continues non-league play Tuesday night with a game at Heidelberg College.
