Jon Cannell is sharing the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Offensive Player of the Week award in men’s soccer, league publicist Greg Chandler announced Monday. A sophomore from Vicksburg, Cannell scored two goals and assisted on the game-winning tally as the Britons upset 20th-ranked Calvin College, 3-2, in Grand Rapids last Tuesday. He was credited with two shots as the Britons played to a 1-1 draw with Alma College on Saturday.

“Jon has really raised his game from last year and it is clear his individual efforts in the off season are paying off,” Albion coach Jerry Block said. “He's starting to give us a consistent scoring threat from the midfield which we've been lacking.”

Entering the final week of the season, Albion is tied with Kalamazoo College for fourth place in the MIAA standings. Albion and Kalamazoo will square off Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the Britons’ home finale at Alumni Field. Albion completes the season with a Saturday night contest at Adrian College.
