Stange, Smart swing their way to all-MIAA awards

Jessica Stange and Allison Smart, Albion College's top two hitters in league play, were rewarded Wednesday when they were announced as members of the all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball team.

Stange, a junior designated player from Macomb Township and a graduate of Lutheran North High School, was a .419 (18x43) hitter in 14 league games. She was ranked among the league leaders with 16 runs batted in (third), five homeruns (fourth), and a .814 slugging percentage (fourth). Opponents pitched to Stange carefully, and she drew seven walks to reach base 49 percent of the time.

Smart played right field in 13 league games for the Britons. The senior from Manton hit for power as her .705 slugging percentage was seventh-best in the MIAA. She posted a .409 batting average (18x44) with four doubles, three homeruns, and 10 RBI.

The Albion College softball team was defeated by Division II Hillsdale College, 5-2 and 4-2, in its final doubleheader of the season at Dempsey Field. Allison Smart, a senior right fielder from Manton, slugged a homerun in game one, and Brenna Przeslawski, a senior left fielder from Harper Woods, collected four hits in the doubleheader. Albion wins to put wrap on softball season

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Albion College will take momentum into the offseason after sweeping a non-league doubleheader from Case Western Reserve University by scores of 13-1 and 4-2 Sunday.

Albion went scoreless in the first inning of game one, but it exploded for four runs in the second, five in the third, and four more in the fourth. Samantha Kolling (Monclova, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) collected three hits, including two doubles, and two runs batted in. Jenna Dumbleton (Northville/Northville) produced two doubles and three RBI. Brenna Przeslawski (Harper Woods/Grosse Pointe North) finished with two hits, and Katie Dotter (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) added two RBI.

In game two, Albion scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning. Przeslawski and Tate Kern (Kaleva/Brethren) slugged RBI doubles in the inning. Jenna Hogg (Flat Rock/Flat Rock) finished a five-hitter with four strikeouts.
